Coppel vs Elektra vs Liverpool: which credit wins

Coppel wins for most first-time borrowers: the paperwork is lighter, payments land on your quincena, and it is the only one of the three with a published rate, a steep one. Elektra suits people paid weekly. Liverpool beats both if you already hold a bank card and can buy on interest-free months. We read the published requirements, rates and promotions; we did not open accounts at any of the three.

Aisles of a large storeWins overall

Coppel credit

Best for a first credit line

The lightest paperwork: official ID, proof of address and age 16 or older, with payments every quincena. It is the only one with a published rate, 76% fixed and an average CAT of 80.9% before VAT. Pick it if you get paid every quincena and can clear the balance early; skip it if you already qualify for a bank card with interest-free months.

Elektra credit

Best for weekly earners

Credit runs through Banco Azteca, from the same business group, with weekly payments that fit people paid every Friday. A 2023 guide listed proof of income on top of ID and proof of address. We found no verified current rate, so ask for the CAT in writing.

Liverpool credit

Best for interest-free buying

Frequent interest-free months (MSI) promotions, with bank bonuses at events like the Venta Nocturna, and a Liverpool Visa that works outside the store. The catch: the Visa card needs existing credit history, such as a bank card or another loan.

Six rounds, called on the published terms.

Getting approved with a thin credit file

Coppel asks for the least: an official ID (INE, passport or military card), proof of address no older than three months, and age over 16, plus work details and personal references at the Clientes Nuevos desk; there is also a Crédito Coppel Joven for students. Elektra, through Banco Azteca, listed proof of income on top in a December 2023 guide, the extra hurdle if you work informally. Liverpool is the hardest door: Rankia reported in 2023 that its Visa card requires existing credit history.

Coppel credit
Matching payments to your paycheck

Coppel bills per quincena, which lines up with salaried workers paid twice a month; Elektra's model is weekly, which fits people paid every Friday. Liverpool's MSI plans are monthly by definition, which asks a weekly earner to hold four paychecks' worth of discipline for one due date. You can pay Coppel in stores, in the app or at OXXO, and paying early or adding extra cuts the interest you owe. Split by pay cycle: quincena earners go Coppel, weekly earners go Elektra.

What the credit actually costs

Only one side published a number we could verify. Financera reported Crédito Coppel's fixed annual rate at 76% and its average CAT at 80.9% before VAT, valid March 1 to July 31, 2026. CAT (Costo Anual Total) folds interest and fees into one percentage, and Banxico publishes how it works. For Elektra and Liverpool we found no verified current rate, so we won't print one. Coppel wins on transparency only: 80.9% is expensive, but you can plan around it.

Coppel credit
Paying zero interest

Liverpool runs frequent MSI promotions, and events such as the Venta Nocturna stack bank bonuses on top; with a bank card and on-time payments, MSI costs nothing beyond the tag. Coppel's MSI works only with the BanCoppel card and only on some products, and at Buen Fin 2025 Crédito Coppel was interest-free if paid off within the first month (Coppel had not announced 2026 promotions as of October 12). We found no interest-free program for Elektra. Liverpool wins, if you qualify for the card.

Liverpool credit
Rewards and spending beyond the store

Coppel Max pays 1% in electronic money on credit purchases plus a bonus for every four on-time payments; returns claw it back. The BanCoppel credit card pays 1%, 1.2% in your birthday month, with no annual fee. Coppel Pay lets Crédito Coppel holders spend at 400+ merchants (2024), including Home Depot and Volaris, by invitation after six months of on-time payments, at a reported 45% a year. Liverpool's Visa works outside its stores; we found no rewards program for Elektra. Coppel wins on rewards, Liverpool on flexibility.

Coppel credit
Price on the tag before financing

Coppel ran deep category markdowns in 2026: up to 40% on appliances in March and on mattresses in May, with tracked products at 9% to 59% off list; the uDream Eve mattress dropped from $7,400 to $2,999. We did not track Elektra or Liverpool tags, so compare the cash price of the same model number at all three on the same day before you look at any installment.

The 12-month cost of owning it on credit

Twenty-four quincenas is exactly 12 months, so Coppel's standard term doubles as a one-year cost of ownership. These are Coppel's own advertised payments, multiplied out.

Furniture and appliances landed at 34%, while the mattress and the phone ran 45% to 46%. On the phone, the extra $12,125 would buy a second Hisense fridge with $6,926 left over. Coppel Max hands back 1% of the purchase, about $269 on the phone, which trims the extra cost by just 2%.

How to get the CAT from Elektra and Liverpool

We have no verified current rate for Elektra or Liverpool, so build the same table yourself before you sign. At the counter or on the checkout screen, ask for four things in writing: the cash price, the payment amount, the number of payments, and the CAT. Multiply payment by number of payments, subtract the cash price, and you have the true cost of the credit in pesos.

Then check the CAT against Banxico's explainer, which defines how the figure is built. A Liverpool MSI offer has a total equal to the cash price; anything above that is interest or fees.

The comparison that settles it

Picture the same product at $9,499 cash at Coppel and $10,500 at another store over 12 interest-free months. The answer depends on whether you can pay $9,499 today. If yes, take the cash price. If not, interest-free beats any credit line that charges a CAT, because $10,500 is less than 34% over $9,499.

Two outsiders worth checking

Walmart, Sam's Club and Bodega Aurrera run their own parallel event, El Fin Irresistible, around Buen Fin; 2026 dates were not announced as of October 8. Mercado Libre leans on bank coupons: in late 2025 it offered 10% off with a BanCoppel credit card, minimum purchase $2,500, capped at $500. If you hold a BanCoppel card, that coupon can make Mercado Libre cheaper than Coppel itself on the same item.

Questions people ask about these three

Is Coppel or Elektra better?
In Coppel vs Elektra the deciding factor is your pay cycle. Coppel bills per quincena and asks for ID, proof of address and age over 16. Elektra bills weekly and, per a 2023 guide, also asks for proof of income. Compare the total to pay and the CAT for the same product.
Which charges less interest, Coppel or Elektra?
We can only verify Coppel: a 76% fixed annual rate and an average CAT of 80.9% before VAT for March to July 2026. We found no verified current rate for Elektra, so ask for its CAT in writing before signing.
Is Coppel credit easier to get than a Liverpool card?
Yes. Crédito Coppel needs ID, recent proof of address and age over 16. The Liverpool Visa card requires existing credit history, such as a bank card or another loan, according to a 2023 Rankia report.
Where can I get interest-free months?
Liverpool runs frequent MSI promotions. At Coppel, MSI works only with the BanCoppel card on some products, and at Buen Fin 2025 Crédito Coppel was interest-free if paid off within the first month.
How much extra does Coppel credit cost over a year?
On five products with published math, 24 quincenas added 34% to 46% over cash. A $5,199 fridge cost $6,984 and a $26,899 phone cost $39,024. Our Coppel credit guide explains how to cut that by paying early.
